    Is Egypt safe?

No first hand experience. But we were considering a Nile River Cruise with Viking and almost booked it. But "my gut" kept saying it is not a place I want to put myself in. So, we decided to do a South African tour with Tauck in a couple of years. That way I'm only exposed to the risk of lions...

What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

Took the boat out for the first day of fishing this season. No luck, but it was great being on the salt water again. No fun docking solo in my new slip today. The wind picked up and blew me off the dock twice. No crowd watching in my so I didn't care - so nice to have a slip right down the...

That's too bad, it is/was a very handy tool, but I won't pay to use it.

    Birds are wiping me out...

Thanks for the tip on black sunflower seeds, grabbed some at the local hardware store this morning. The finches aren't throwing it around and the cardinals are digging it. I'm sure more species will be happy as well.

    Birds are wiping me out...

Yep I enjoy watching them, makes me happy. I just put up that feeder and of course instructed my wife NOT to buy only sunflower seeds and to get a mix. Ha! Now I have to eat crow and go get some sunflower seeds. So far the squirrels and chipmunks have not been able to get to the feeder and...

    Birds are wiping me out...

The birds are literally eating me out of house and home. The feeder on the right was emptied in 2 days by some very messy eating birds. I watched one female house finch throw seed all over the place like an angry toddler. So much for "eating like a bird"! So I thought I'd ask my friends in the...

Checking in with a quick question RE: personal home AA

Yeah that confused me as well. I'm guessing they meant 30-50% of net worth or assets. Buying a house that is 50% of your assets seems a bit high for me. Also I wouldn't consider the house as part of my AA pertaining to my investment portfolio. yes, it has equity that may or may not grow over...

    Buying a New Car

I use to be a car guy, had MB, Porsche, BMW, Jag all leased through the biz over the years. But , now retired, then I got into boating and woodworking and needed at truck. Now I will probably never go back to a car. I love my 2020 RAM 1500 Limited...my second one and will keep this one for as...

We just Returned from a 9-day Cruise and were somewhat disappointed.

We have done one cruise, Nat Geo to Antarctica, a great experience and I think there were 180 guests if I remember correctly. Today I just cancelled a Viking River cruise , lost a few bucks but I'm not ready for that yet. Two more continents to go, and they are probably best seen by land. After...

Weddings for children - how much?

I set it at $70K, they went a bit over and they paid for some extras out of their pocket as well as for their honeymoon. I think my second daughter will not spend that much, but time will tell when it's her turn. Meanwhile that money is sitting in SWVXX and growing nicely at 5%. Probably won't...

Ready to be diagnosed by ChatGPT?

I retired last year from 28+ years in subspecialty surgery. I actually didn't mind it when people handed me their research and assumptions. If they had done some reading it made our conversations more pertinent and quicker. Most people weren't too far off and we could work through diagnostic...
