Direct File, a permanent option in 2025.

After reading the article, I think the intent of the IRS is to gradually include a broader swath of tax filers. I suspect eventually most anyone will be able to file using Directfile.

    Do you buy travel insurance?

Being on regular Medicare with a supplement plan, there is a $50,000 lifetime limit on coverage when outside the country. I'd rather not dip into that if I can avoid it so, when traveling internationally, I look for medical coverage that is primary not secondary. Insuremytrip gives that info...

    Haunted Computer

I've had SATA cable/connector problems and they can be really annoying! I've pretty much decided that my days of building desktop PCs from scratch are over and my next "desktop" will be a mini PC.

Examples of current inflation - add yours!

This week, a local supermarket has 80/20 ground beef on sale for $1.99 a pound if you buy a multi-pound package. This is lower than we've seen in many years, since long before the pandemic - ground beef is kind of a staple for us and we watch its price closely. Companies have greedily fattened...

Not much point in Roth conversions?

For us and our Roth conversion planning, that is a significant issue: I'm 16 years older than my husband so the odds are that he will have quite a few years of paying taxes at the single tax rates.

Activity might be the most important thing.

We walk 5 miles a day as well. We also hike around where we live near Sedona which has an elevation around 4500'. We're just finishing a vacation on the island of Kauai and, on Monday, did the truncated Kalalau trail hike which is a total in/out of just over 4 miles. Quite a workout! Worst part...

Good friend just died of Pancreatic Cancer

Just curious about what the additional fee for blood draw is if you don't mind my asking. My doctor's small clinic can do bloodwork but I have no idea what they would charge for a draw. Or I guess I could go with one of the contracted labs.

    Advice on Dry Rot Repair

+1. If it's their recommended guy, then they'll be less liable to nit-pick the results.

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Not the greatest quality but if you search on youtube you can watch episodes with ads. Maybe watch one and see if you like it then maybe buy used dvds on ebay.

Anyone else NOT watch the news?

I can't imagine not being clued in, at least somewhat, to local, national and world events. Yes, we are manipulated but that will only get worse with developments like AI. I would think that those with kids and grand-kids might be interested in what's going to affect their lives at least. YMMV...

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

I don't know if you ever saw the old British series from 1979 called Danger UXB (dealing with unexploded bombs during the Battle of Britain) but as I recall, it was quite good. Anthony Andrews starred. Available on Acorn I believe.

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Three episodes into Parish on AMC. Stars Giancarlo Esposito who played Gus Fring on Breaking Bad. So far so good. Lots of action, suspense, and intrigue. Esposito plays Gray Parish, a struggling taxi company owner with a mysterious past who gets dragged into a deal with a New Orleans' crime...

    TMobile internet

We've had T-MOBILE internet for over 4 years after suffering with terrible cable service. We started with 4g and upgraded a year or so ago to 5g. Speeds increased by a factor of about six. Now we typically get 200 Mbps. We don't use a separate router but I think we could. The wireless coverage...

IMHO, that series finale tops all others!

Medigap plan G vs plan N

Exactly! My feelings as well. I average 6-8 doctors visits annually - two with my GP and two with my dermatologist alone. I'm well into my 70's and sorting through niggling/small bills and making sure they are valid and then get paid takes time that, IMHO, could be much better spent...
