What I've read on Bogleheads on how to handle this type of situation: 1. off money transfer lockdown 2. set up recurring ach transfer 3. turn money transfer lockdown back on You could test this out, just in case transfer a month, or two, of expenses to your bank first (incase the recurring...

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

Not true if you hire armored trucks. Back in '21 when I was dealing with that side of the business, they had a minimum of pickup charge of $600, (which was going up to $1k last I heard) and other misc charges, on top of the % they charged for each dollar they transported for our business. It...

The age when you actually retire, vs. the age when you begin taking social security

The Finance Buff has a good post about retiring early and what effect it has on your social security benefit. https://thefinancebuff.com/early-retirement-social-security-benefits.html I calculated that once I hit the 2nd bend point, each of my additional working years added about $56ish to my PIA.

    Tetanus Vaccine

Wow, I haven't thought of Tetanus vaccine in a long time. Reading your OP I was trying to recall the last time I had one. I think I had the DTaP vaccine 20 or so years ago. I do remember my arm being very sore for a few days, but no other side effects. In recent years, I haven't had any...

    ACA vs Medicaid

Instead of pulling funds from taxable accounts to manage your income to get on an ACA plan, it may be better to convert IRA to Roth instead. Just an idea in case you haven't thought about that. And experiences with Medicaid are dependent by state.

59.5 And Sitting On The Fence

I don't think you're there yet. Maybe another 2 to 3 years to build up your portfolio a bit so you can have all of your planned fun in retirement. Also, think about the possibility of your wife not being able to work anymore. Disability, layoff, ageism does happen when we least expect it. Or...

    GLP-1 diabetes/weight loss drugs

I don't have personal experience with it. But have begun looking into it for a family member. The thing that would concern me about your brother is that he is already being monitored for pancreatic issues. There have been findings that people who take GLP-1 meds have an increased risk of...

    Mistake on tax return

That's what I would do. My DH was an immigrant some years back and filed his tax returns with Middle Initials that he didn't have. English not being his first language he didn't understand what Middle Initial on the tax forms meant. He thought he need to put both his first name initial and...
