Who has no scheduled commitments in retirement?

    HOA board, nothing else.

88 year old confusing brake with accelerator (maybe)

Locally I used a hospital that had a program to get physically injured drivers back ON the road to get my mom OFF the road after mysterious dents started appearing. Having the evaluator go on a ride with her and tell her she should not be driving anymore was fine with mom since that opinion...

Financial Planner - Fee to Create Financial Plan

Again, pay the whopping $200 for a year's access to the database of RIA firms per my earlier posts. To avoid the above.

Which performs better for the long term.

Yep, total bond market funds got burned because of their exposure to long-term issues. There's at least one financial guru out there who says long-term are for institutions, but individual investors should go no longer than intermediate-term. Plus backtests over on Bogleheads showing...

Remove rust spots from concrete help!

Be extremely careful as to what chemicals you put on concrete. I've had to pay twice now out-of-pocket to repair the short concrete sidewalk out in front of my place. After others in my family put "concrete-safe" ice melt chemicals on it. Nowadays if there's a risk of snow (or more likely...

Checking in with a quick question RE: personal home AA

Enough assets in taxable to simply borrow against them to buy a home? Called a pledged asset line at my brokerage...cheaper than paying margin interest rates.

What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

First PT session after surgery to fix a foot issue that's been limiting my physical activity for awhile. Once the above is finished on to the other foot. RICE wasn't working anymore...

Which performs better for the long term.

short-term treasury fund for me, which has ~10 years of spending everything else in an equities index.

    Gone by the third generation

Appears to be fraud on the part of a company claiming to be a lender with the loan secured by Graceland. Especially since the notary who supposedly notarized her signature on the deal has said they never met.

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

My current favorite Mexican place has done away with prices on the menu altogether. Guess that saves the cost of re-printing them. There's a QR code you can scan to see the price list of menu items. No 3% up-charge, though. :)

    Latest Inflation Numbers and Discussion

3% is a more realistic target for the Fed nowadays. Unless everybody wants another Great Recession.

    Retirement ??

Also had one kid at home for several months after undergrad. They had a job lined up but not before Guard training which took place end of that year. Put 'em to work around the house while they were waiting.

    House Insurance Type??

Yep, the highest deductible for home was $2,500 with my insurer. I'm not in an area with high winds or hailstorms. And I wonder if such a low maximum deductible is a requirement of the state insurance commission.

    Financial Planning for Assisted Living

Type A CCRC entry fee can top $1 million for a couple. Most won't be able to afford that. Grandparents did fine for ~20 years in a CCRC that charged more the more care you needed.

    Plan for Exit 2024

Don't understand why OP wouldn't consolidate most all accounts to Schwab. I have everything at my brokerage except for a few just-in-case-brokerage-access-is-interrupted accounts at an external financial institution which has a broad network of branches. I dumped Vanguard years ago when...
