    Golf Talk Tuesdays - 2021

Availability of a sporting event on TV is based on ratings, not gender.

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

It's not $5 after tips. There's a very good reason why servers never ask that tipping be eliminated.

    Gone by the third generation

Not everyone has the talent or desire to run a business, even if their parents were very successful at it. It may be easier to run an existing business that to create a new one, there's no guarantee.

Do the math. The loss of 3% has been more than made up by the large increase in menu prices. In fact, the tipping "expectation" percentage alone has risen by far more than 3% in the last few years.

It boggles my mind that this is still done is the US. It's even more mind boggling that so many people seem to accept it as normal. This hasn't happened to me (Canada) for at least 15 years, probably longer.

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

Actually, I find "mandatory" 18 percent tips far worse than honest 3% CC service charges. If it's mandatory, it's not a tip, it's a service charge.

So instead of a reduced tip the server gets no tip?

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

I guess that applies to some people. Not me though, the method of paying has no bearing on what I decide to eat. But there certainly is a demographic that wouldn't go to a restaurant if they had to pay cash or debit only...they just don't have the money.

    Anyone ever try Farmer Carries?

I do them occasionally as part of my workout, usually up and down the basement stairs.

    Clever thinking.

    unpairing a remote?

I figured it out. The receiver menu has a category called "hardware" with a sub menu called "audio OSB". I turned that to off and now the remote controls the receiver only.

    unpairing a remote?

The problem is that the receiver remote changes the volume on both the receiver and TV at the same time. I want the TV to remain at 0 or muted when the receiver volume is changed.

    unpairing a remote?

I thought I had a simple problem but I can't find a solution. I tried the Onkyo forums but there were no topics and they're not accepting new members. I want to unpair/unsync the remote for my Onkyo receiver from my Proscan TV. Currently when the receiver volume is changed using the Onkyo...

Cash under the table, food taken home expensed to the restaurant, meals eaten at the restaurant that don't get recorded, etc. There are a lot of ways for restaurant owners to game the system if they choose.

A Friend in need , how can I help

400 pounds at age 71? The reality is that he probably doesn't have much time left, so what will his 55-year old wife do when she has to survive on her own?

    awash in space aliens

That might be nice but you can't assume that they'll be friendly. Maybe they're looking for a new home and if so, we'd be in the way.

    awash in space aliens

I've always found that ridiculous. If there are aliens smart enough to get here they already know and don't need to ask a random person.

A 20% mandatory tip is far worse than a 3% CC service charge.

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

We mostly stopped going to restaurants a few years ago when we had decided that prices were getting out of line. We only go now if it's a social gathering and almost never on our own. Credit card fees are an annoyance but it's lower on the list than a few other things.

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

I guess some people automatically assume credit card charges are baked in and never change, even if those charges may have been erased long ago by several other cost increases that weren't reflected on the bill.. Unless people look at their books over several years they have absolutely no idea.
