    Sous Vide Cooking ?

I don’t char my steaks. I just get a nice Mallard Reaction and avoid black marks and flare-ups. Beyond that I don’t worry about it as I get older. I expect cooking with smoke is also frowned upon health-wise although in many of these cases it’s cooking too low temp to caramelize proteins.

We just Returned from a 9-day Cruise and were somewhat disappointed.

Xanterra Travel Collection owns Windstar Cruises, Country Walkers, VBT Bicycling Tours, and several NP lodges (including what were some of the Fred Harvey hotels) plus the Grand Canyon Hotel and railroad. Interesting privately owned company. We were very impressed with their operation when we...

Fly to Salt Lake City or Spokane in late July to see nature and chill?

We also flew into Jackson Hole our first trip to Yellowstone and it was great. We’re flying there again this September for our fifth trip to Grand Teton NP. The airport is actually inside Grand Teton NP.

We just Returned from a 9-day Cruise and were somewhat disappointed.

We’ve been on now defunct Cruise West Prince William Sound with 100 passengers. That was very nice. Also a long range fishing boat chasing whales Baja California and Sea of Cortez, 25 people including crew. That was fantastic. On the Cruise West tour we were approaching a tall glacier and I saw...

Oh, OK. Thanks. Yes that’s clearly nothing like cruises. Do you think about chartering?

Was it really a 2-year cruise? FWIW 250 passengers is our limit, 100 or less even better.

    Electric Vehicles - Models Discussion

It’s been a bit weird. I’m just glad we already finished this year’s big road trip where we visited many new superchargers along the way. Don’t know when/if we’ll do a big road trip next year, so we have time for things to settle out. Mainly hoping for more New Mexico and southern Colorado...

Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

I’m not worrying about this anymore. We don’t have regular restaurants at home because we don’t go out to eat. Our dining out is when we travel. Food in tourist places especially in national parks is already quite expensive. We’re just happy to find places where the food is really good and...

CVS Struggling with costs of Medicare Advantage plans

I was very underwhelmed with my experience in a Target CVS for a vaccine - my only choice at the time. It was bad compared to a regular CVS. I guess they are going to close a bunch of them? They had planned to close “dozens” of Target CVS pharmacies this spring already. That’s out of 1800 so...

Fly to Salt Lake City or Spokane in late July to see nature and chill?

I looked at flying to Glacier and Yellowstone and concluded that using 2 different Montana airports for arrival/departure made the most sense otherwise it’s a long drive back to return the car. I don’t remember which airport for Glacier - I might have been looking at Missoula but for...

Anybody Using an Alternative ID Email Address?

DH was getting a lot of extra spam recently and finally figured out that almost all of it was being sent to his old facebook email address (only used for that). He changed that email address. He hardly uses that account.

    Latest Inflation Numbers and Discussion

I remember there were wink wink nudge nudge type questions about an inflation target to the Fed from the press all the way back with Greenspan in the 90s. Sounds like it had been discussed for decades before 2012.

Anybody Using an Alternative ID Email Address?

Apple provides this option to hide your real email in some cases. Unique to the recipient. You don’t even see what it is. I’ve had a handful of fake emails for a long time. We have our own domain and use a mail service provider.
