Anyone else NOT watch the news?

I was a ‘normal’ news viewer until Covid hit and then I became obsessed with it. Eventually I addressed by addiction and I stopped watching all news entirely. It’s been 3-4 yrs and my life is so much better. Certainly my iPhone gets news flashes and I still hear friends talk about current...

Best Battery Tire Inflator for Car?

Dewalt all the way. I’ve had mine a year and love it. Bought it on Amazon and got the case for it also. And yes I already had a dewalt power drill and electric chainsaw I love both. My son has Black & Decker electric tools so I bought him the B&D compressor. It works fine but cheap in...

Trip Greenville SC and Nashville recommendations

Wish I had seen this post earlier...assuming you've already taken your trip. DW and I lived in Greenville, SC 25+ years and moved to the mountains of SC/NC border 2 years ago. Love Greenville but after early retirement I didn't need the traffic, airport, taxes, etc. Downtown is better than ANY...

    Abandoning EVs

I recently heard a statistic that I share with my EV friends. 92% of all EVs ever built are still on the road. The other 8% made it home. :)

    Poll: Drinking Preferences (Alcohol)

I've been a drinker since I was legal...age 18. Mostly beer then over the years developed a taste for good bourbon. I do a 'Dry January' each year as a gut check... 'that I can' so to speak. After one such Jan a few years ago I realized how good I felt, better I slept and really didn't miss...

    Gardeners

I start my plants from seed in January under grow lights and they are almost a foot tall and ready to set out. I’ve got about 40 plants but only keep about 6 and give the rest away to friends and family. Better Boy, Beefsteak, Juliet and San Marzano. My raised bed is inside my pool fence...

    Natural gas grill?

The convenience of NEVER having to swap out a propane tank is a huge convenience. Our previous house had natural gas stubbed for a grill on the patio and it was perfect. Personally I prefer my smoker for most meats but for burgers and dogs, a gas grill is convenient and fast!

Bacon - How Do You Cook It?

Fry it in a pot. Yes, a pot. Minimizes splatter and then I drain the grease into my bacon grease jar for seasoning.

    Your favorite 2022 Purchase?

Without question, the fireplace insert I had installed in my fireplace last September. I’ve only turned the heat on once and that was when my son and his wife and new baby came home for Christmas. (Truth be told, I only turned the heat on for the new grandbaby!). I’ve been burning wood and the...

    3rd Shift Job

I was a supervisor on third shift for two years about thirty yrs ago. It was my first position with the company that I would ultimately retire early from as sales director. Third shift is not an easy gig. Frankly, weekends are the worst. Getting back adjusted to ‘regular’ time just to go back to...

A Friendly Gesture Cheapened - Am I Overthinking This?

I would feel the same way as your neighbor. Not sure if I would have acted on it but it’s human nature to want to ‘pay back’ a good deed. Be the bigger person and be appreciative. Let it go. Happy new Yesr!

    Withdrawing from an HSA

We’ve got HSA with DW’s employer linked to our checking account and we pay any unreimbursed medical/dental expenses with our 2% rebate credit card. When the monthly bill comes due we transfer from HSA to checking. All expenses are noted on the monthly statements. It seems to work fine for us...

    Do You Like Living Alone?

I cannot relate but I don’t think I would like living alone. Married to my best friend for 34+ years. Ups and downs but mostly ups. Good luck!

What was your happiest moment today?

I woke up holding my sweet wife this morning. Always feel blessed to do that. Retired at 55, April 2019.

Talk me out of volunteering for HOA BOD

I served a three-year term on my HOA years ago as VP, Pres and post Pres....early 30s maybe. It was great experience for my work career, a great way to learn and stumble without personal economic impact LOL. I met lotsa people, enjoyed interacting with most everyone. But get ready...
