    Suspicious Email *Regarding State Return*

Not sure what they can do to stop fraudsters from framing; as long as their databases are locked down. But anybody can spoof an email and write a physical address. Can you give an example of what you would have them do?

    Suspicious Email *Regarding State Return*

In what way; seems like a complete answer from them?

Need to limit my account viewing.

I do exactly the same over my morning coffee. It assures me nothing slipped by fraudulently (alerts or no alerts). Only difference is I use Quicken rather than a spreadsheet.

Considering a retirement move out of town/state

For skiing and hiking midweek, it’s not so much the road traffic as traffic on the trails. We’re happy to attend shows, concerts and sporting events on the weekends. Happy we’re both happy in our choices

Considering a retirement move out of town/state

We retired in upstate NY, sold our house and moved TO Denver. We love it here. Midweek skiing avoids traffic and living right downtown means we can walk or take light rail anywhere we want to go so the heavy traffic’s not an issue to us. YMMV

looking for spend down type threads on here

For folks not clicking the link; this line is very important: "but such spending bumps can only occur once every 3 years at most (to avoid having spending ratchet too high too quickly)."

    Firecalc Social Security Year

Is it true that you can't use a year in the past for this Firecalc tab? If I put in my SS amount with a year of 2023; my success is 46% but if I use 2024, it's 100%

    Trust or Not?

yep, that's what my DW has; IRAs in a trust

    Trust or Not?

Thanks for the answer. So, you didn't see the need in your own estate to setup a trust. Guess that says it all.

    Trust or Not?

That's great. I do suspect just the executors interactions with the estate lawyer as slowing down things. Having said that; did you see any advantage versus just a beneficiary designation? Plus, no you always have to have a trust account to transfer spending funds to, right?

    Trust or Not?

When my FIL passed; each of his 4 daughters had a trust setup for them. His estate wasn't subject to any tax; the trust agenda could have just been accomplished via beneficiaries (he only had 2 accounts). It added an unnecessary 365 days to settle the estate. Can't transfer from a trust...

    When do you die?

Here's a wrench; are all you gifters withdrawing IRA monies to gift? Who pays the tax if you do? I assume you do or are all the posters talking about after tax money. I'd love to gift more but don't want to take a tax hit to do it.

    Auto accident lawsuit

Hypothetically speaking: Let's say you were in an auto accident that turned out to be your fault. Police arrived; the other driver was taken away in an ambulance but was conscious and not bleeding or with obvious issues. No tickets were issued. 2.5 years later; you're served with a summons...

    Fear of Hwy Driving?

That shouldn't be an issue if using a GPS; you'll know miles in advance of the upcoming turn. If you don't have GPS; there are still highway signs miles in advance. If you find yourself in that pickle, you only have yourself to blame. Continue to the next exit and circle back.

    moving to a new city/state...

We moved to Denver from Albany, NY 2 years ago. We love it. The beauty of the state is unsurpassed. We both ski and love music and Colorado has both in spades. Folks are friendly, lots of restaurants/bars to choose from and it's (kinda) halfway between our kids in Buffalo, NY and Mesa, AZ

What's your goto site for booking hotels in Europe?

I look on TripAdvisor; who will consolidate offers from Booking.com, hotels.com; etc. as well as see reviews from fellow travelers. I see the prices from those sites and then check the hotels' own sites (which usually match the offers). I like to book direct to reduce any issues; plus they...

    Why move to Florida?

Can't stand those folks who move to a place and then claim it for their own: "Don't come here, we're full". Pretty f*ing entitled, if you ask me. For us; we raised our kids in the Upstate NY area (Albany). They ended up in Buffalo and Phoenix. We checked out some potential retirement cities...

    Retorq Lug Nuts?

I had new tires put on at the dealer; never a mention of a return for retorque. 2 weeks later, while Sunday driving, one wheel started wobbling. I pulled over to check it and a lug nut was gone. Trying to drive to the next town now; a lug BOLT broke off. It was a white knuckle nightmare...

Two years in a row TurboTax has gotten me for an extra $25

I use HRB Deluxe which includes free Fed e-file and 1 free state e-file. I have to file 2 state returns (CO and a non-resident NY). NY does require e-file except for non-resident returns so I printed and mailed the NY return. Then, to e-file CO; HRB charged me $19.95 to e-file that state. So...
