Preferred Stock Investing-The Good , The Bad and The In Between 2021

Yeah, my cash bucket is getting way too large. Although, with MM paying me 5.25% I don't have much motivation to take risk

Also hit my significant milestone today!

Wow, $1.5M increase in 2 moonths!! Some sort of windfall I assume?

Thanks, better to be lucky than good, I guess :) But it's mostly market gains. I add my normal max out of 401k and when I get a bonus I add it to the pile, but mostly market.

Preferred Stock Investing-The Good , The Bad and The In Between 2021

Anyone holding NYCB-U, it's getting hammered today. Earnings were terrible and they cut their common dividend. Hope they don't defer the dividend on this issue, which they have the ability to do for 20 quarters.

Thanks for the heads up bob. It was good while it lasted. Now where to put that money?

01/01/2024 - $3,453k Really nice run at the end of the year and this is with nearly $900k in money market! We have exceeded our original target ($3M), but have increased it to $4M recently due to inflation. Also, as mentioned in other posts, to line up with DD's high school graduation 06/25 and...

10/03/2023 - $3,132k Slightly down this quarter. Would be up quite a bit more had I not sold the NVDA, but no looking back, it was too risky of a % of our NW considering where we are in this journey. Also, nothing wrong with getting over 5% on a huge chunk of cash!

Thanks, Exit! No, if you remember I actually had pushed mine back to April, 2026. My DD graduates high school in June, 2025 so this lets me get one more bonus check in before I call it quits. Also, my company is set to go public soon and I need to hang on for those shares, as well. So I can't...

07/01/2023 - $3,213k This is our first quarter that has ended over the $3M mark, all thanks to NVDA. Finally for the first time in 13 years had to sell some as it was becoming way too large a % of our portfolio

    Back above $3M

So true. We have no pension or retiree health benefits. So, we will ned more than some others with the benefit of those things
  15. B

    Back above $3M

Yes, the number certainly doesn't matter as much as how that number relates to your expenses. Many people have super long happy retirements with much less.

    Back above $3M

OP here. Real estate equity is not included in the $3M for me

    Back above $3M

And, of course, "enough" is relative. YMMV as Koolau would say

    Back above $3M

Similar for me. I have a large chunk of NVDA that I’ve owned since 2010 that has really helped me get back to the $3M mark recently
  20. B

    Back above $3M

$3M was my original target. So, there was some significance to it for me. With inflation, I'd like to get closer to $4M before I call it quits.

    Back above $3M

Back on Nov 19, 2021 I posted a celebratory thread about hitting NW of $3M (ex RE). Well a few days after I posted that, my portfolio dropped below that mark and I have stayed below since. Well, as of close prices yesterday I am officially back above. Wow, that took a while. Here's to hoping...

I'm with you. Target for me is Mid-March 2026. My daughter graduates high school in 2025, but it makes sense for me to stay on the payroll until March 2026 to bank one last bonus. My company is also in the process of going public. Depending on how (and when) that goes, it could also impact...

04/01/2023 - $2,906k Nice Q1! Still below all-time high, but working our way back there. Also, still reviewing wether I need to up our target number and wether to adjust our AA to a more conservative approach. Getting too close to the end to have the sequence of return risk that we went...
