    Vanguard brokerage fees email

The $100 transfer fee is annoying, especially if it's for each account. It's a dumb idea unless they are trying to lose people who are already on the fence about staying.

I read several newspapers, but I don't watch the news.

    Question for Sourdough Bread Makers

You've got explosive fermentation going on! I baked a loaf yesterday. I'm getting to the end of the sourdough season. I usually take the summer off to avoid adding baking heat to the house.

Treasury Bills, Notes, and Bonds Discussion 2024+

I agree that the real yield is very attractive. TIPs are already a heavy component in our 4-9year investment strategy so I'm not a buyer at this time. If the fixed yield stays high, I may add another step to our ladder next fall.

    The Blues (music)

I remember Leroy Airmaster from Summerfest and area clubs. I’ve seen Jim Liban often but I don’t think I ever saw Short Stuff.. Milwaukee and Madison had great blues and folk scenes. I dion’t get out much for live shows anymore—except outdoors, and our summers are short.

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

I wanted to like it but had a hard time hanging in until the end of the episode one. I thought it was disturbing. I guess there's a genre for everyone.

    The Blues (music)

I only lived in Milwaukee for a couple of years as a young working adult--around 1984 to 1986, so I'm not familiar with the other musicians you mentioned. But I enjoyed listening to them now, especially Hubert Sumlin.

    The Blues (music)

When I lived on the east side of Milwaukee in my early twenties, I frequently would walk to a bar called Hooligans on Monday nights to watch Luther Allison play (for free). He would literally play on top of the bar.

    TMobile internet

We had it for about three months. It really depends on how close you are to a Tmobile tower and how they work out de-prioritization when the tower gets busy. We are not close to a tower, but the nearest tower also wasn't very busy--usually. We got about 100 mps on good days. The problem...

    Great River Road Trip

There aren't a lot of bigger cities north of St. Louis along the river, but we really like Muscatine and Bellevue, Iowa and camp at both places every summer along the river. Both small cities have nice public walking areas along the river. I love to barge-watch.

shameless ask for praise for walking

Eleven miles is fantastic. Walking is a great form of exercise. I think you know that already. It's just frustrating when strangers express unsupported opinions.

Examples of current inflation - add yours!

That's really high. I've not seen that type of inflation at my beer stores, comparing apples to apples. Good craft beer, brewed locally, can still be had for $8-10 for a six pack. Less than that on sale. I have seen inflation at brewpubs. Taps that were $5-$7 per pint two years ago are...

    Fitness Activities In Early Retirement

I may be biased, but walking is great way to be active. I never hurt myself walking. I can't say the same thing about pickleball.

Why are older Americans drinking so much

I also enjoy a glass or two of wine or beer. Well before retirement, I gave up drinking any quantities that make me feel like crap the next day or any extra trips to the bathroom interrupting sleep. I've seen many different outcomes from people who drank or didn't drink that I'm not going to...

    What have you read recently?

i’ve started reading the Anna Pigeon mysteries by Nevada Barr, finishing the first one, “Track of the Cat.” For fans of Joe Picket, these books are an interesting contrast featuring a female ranger for the U.S. Parks service.

Total Solar Eclipse April 8, 2024

It sounds like a great adventure. My wife was trying to get me to drive to Indiana at the last minute, but I just wasn't feeling the long drive. Good luck to all. I'm going to watch Mazatlan's live video feed.

Considering a retirement move out of town/state

We have also spent most of our lives in Wisconsin. We will likely relocate in the next couple of years. We were seriously looking at the western mountain states but are now leaning towards full time global slow travel during our remaining go-go years. Family health issues (not ours) are...

I've got Covid.... The thread for your covid experiences

This. There is a wide variation in symptoms and duration. Covid knocked me down for a week, and then I was fine. My cousin tested positive and felt a little off for one day and was fine. My wife tested positive and walked about five miles per day outside because it was driving her insane to...

What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

Saw that professional baseball is started up, so we bought tickets to the Brewers/Twins game next week. Senior day, and good tickets for only $15 each. The game will be in Milwaukee's retractable-roofed stadium. Been spending almost every day at the hospital visiting close family so we need...

What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

My wife has decided that she wants to level up in pickleball from 3.0, so we have been drilling once or twice per week. Some of her pickleball ladies have noticed the difference, so today two other ladies joined us for drilling at 7:30 a.m. I didn't ask for anything in return, but I received a...

    Galveston vs Corpus Christi

It's definitely a risk. We have friends flying from the Bay Area to Eagle Pass, Texas for the eclipse and wondered the same thing. Weather can be variable on the gulf coast also. It can be foggy in one place with the sun shining twenty miles away.
