This weather is awful - 2024 to ?

Hope it passes without incident, aja888. How much more water can the ground absorb down there?!?

The very scary weather for us on the west coast is “wildfire season”. It comes in late summer when everything is tinder dry and the wind kicks up. We had a very close fire two seasons ago.

The fight is on and in good hands when you see or hear the small CalFire spotter plane up high directing retardant and water drops!

^^3" is a light rain for you folks in Texas. Most unstudied flood plains in our area are based on the flood of 1957- apparently the highest flood of record here. Supposedly 6-10" of rain in a couple of days. A normal rain for Texas.

I found a 1957 photo of my grandfather and I coming down the road in a boat during the 1957 flood. So it wouldn't hurt for you to get a boat, or at least an inflatable life raft in case you need to go somewhere during a flood.

Well the Houston area is strange (in a lot of ways) but when the Bayou's (Houston is called the Bayou city) are already near full it doesn't take much to flood the city. Houston is really flat and much of it is covered in concrete, so it can get bad, really fast. I lived in 5 houses over the years I lived there and none of them ever flooded but at times the difference was measured in inches (literally). I have been stranded many times unable to get in or out of the areas where I lived. Just a way of life in Houston.

You are talking East Texas for plenty of rain. Most of the rest of the state is much drier. Go to the western half after the TX Hill Country and there is lots of desert. We are semi-arid down here and hurting for rain this year.

I didn't flood during Harvey in 2017 when we had 53" of rain over a few days. The three homes I have owned in the area were selected based on "high and dry" criteria (all in The Woodlands and slightly north).

Stay safe and dry everyone!
Sunny and heading to 79 today, we could use some of your rain.

High and dry is good. I remember surveying the Addicks reservoir in the early’80s following a downpour. Lots of heat, humidity, mosquitoes and snakes. big snakes.

We are on the "high country" of DFW. Thankfully, as we're up to ~30" for the year which is the 6th wettest in recorded history. Weather man said we have already had more annual rain than 29 years of the past... In 5 months. As we wake up to another thunderstorm this morning. 🙄

I don't know how much over the average annual rainfall we are around here, but it's a lot. Matter of fact it's raining again this morning. Probably will get another 1 to 2 inches today.

10 PM, the temperature is 92F with a heat index of 99F - and it's only the first week of June.
Ugh. My condolences. Currently I’m in Florida visiting my 86 year old mother with an expected temp today of 97. Fortunately the humidity isn’t as high as usual so the heat index isn’t as bad as it could be.

65 and rainy yesterday, sunny today and expecting in the 70's, heading to the 80s by the end of the week.
Too early here for that warm, wildfire season is starting too soon.

We have been fortunate to have had a grate stretch of weather in the Mid-Atlantic for a few days. Very low humidity, moderate temps. Perfect golfing weather for me. Typing this in our backyard, enjoying the evening for as long as I can. The heat and humidity starts returning tomorrow.

We're in for a long stretch of +90° days.

Checked my weather station data for annual temp swings. About normal.

Coldest temp so far was -11.9° on 1/14/2024 at 7:34 am
Hottest temp so far was 92.7° on 6/12/2024 at 1:48 pm

Should break the high next Monday when the forecast high is 98°.

I really feel for all the flooding and heat a lot of you are experiencing. I hear where people get 3 inches of rain at one time, I just can't imagine that. I live in a very dry area and lucky to get 3 inches of rain in a few months or two total. Snow for this coming week in higher elevations. Snow will drop down to 4500' with 1 to 2 feet. The Sun Hwy they are still removing snow with one of the worst years I read a few weeks ago.

We still having 40's as lows and hit 80's a few times so far.

I wish everyone a safe and no damage from all the recent weather.

We hit 100°F today. I realize that's common in lots of places, but around here it's rare. The RH is 39%, so things could be a lot worse.

Our neighborhood got 4.5 inches in 24 hours from rain bands extending north from TS Alberto. Didn’t cause flooding. Looks like another round today from another disorganized system building in the Bay of Campeche.

We’ve desperately needed the rain. These systems are helping reverse the drought situation and fill reservoirs in the Rio Grand watershed.

109 F today. Good thing it's a dry heat.

Took a ride into the mountains today, quite a bit less than 109F at higher elevations. Still good and warm though.
